What is a pocket diaper and why would I want to choose this option?

A pocket diaper simply is a cover with a fleece or seude-cloth lining sewn into it. The fleece/seudecloth has a "pocket" or opening that allows you to stuff an insert, prefold or towel into the space between the fleece and outer cover. Pocket Diapers are great because the fleece/suedecloth wicks moisture away from your baby's skin and keeps them feeling dry. This makes for an excellent night time diaper. The pocket also allows you to adjust the absorbency. You can add one, two or three inserts depending on the absorbency needed.

Pocket diapers are also very trim, especially with a hemp insert which is less bulky and absorbs 7x cotton! Pocket Diapers can make up your whole diapering system or you can supplement any system with a few pockets to allow for a great night time and outing diaper.

What is a diapering system?

A diapering system is a complete set-up of everything you need to start cloth diapering (minus the washer and detergent). When I started cloth diapering I bought a diaper package, but this did not give me everything I needed such as wipes, wet bag, and wipes solution. Cloth Diapering is a system and works best if you have all the necessary components to start you out right. This will make the process easier if you are just starting up. A diapering system can consist of one type of cloth diaper or a group of different style diapers. For example prefolds are a necessary component to any diapering system. They are very versatile and can be used as a diaper, insert, doubler, burp rag and are excellent for clean-ups as your baby enters toddlerhood!
